Perfectly Suited Plants for Living Walls
Compact & Incredibly Fragrant
If you've ever strolled through a big patch of Basil on a summer afternoon, you know that mouth-watering, delectable aroma. Well, you can get that every day -- and from just one plant! -- of Marseille.
A dwarf plant, Marseille is perfect for Living Walls and container gardening. The leaves are larger than most other varieties, and the plant is nicely branched, so you get a big harvest in very little space. Expect Marseille to reach 10 inches high and about 8 inches wide at maturity, bursting with delectable spice in every inch!
Grow Marseille in a rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Pinch out growing tips to encourage bushier plants. Pkt is 100 seeds.
Sturdy and Compact!
This Greek Oregano is much stronger than its more common cousin, for an explosion of flavor!
Greek oregano is the true "wild oregano" found originally in Greece. With a stronger, more aromatic flavor and scent than regular oregano, it is one of the most important herbs of Italian, Greek and Mexican cooking. The flavor stands up to bold flavors like tomatoes, onion, garlic and beef.
Greek oregano is a bushy perennial with bright deep purple-brown stems and 1 1/2 inch broadly ovate leaves that often have a red flush. Branched clusters of purple-pink flowers appear all summer. Grows to 18 inches tall and wide.
Use leaves and flowers in cooking!
Beyond cooking with chives, the plants are great garden companion plants to repel insect pests.
The one must-have kitchen herb, chives are perfect for almost any savory dish. Snip the leaves in bunches at the base of the plant, then chop and use fresh or freeze for year-round use. The flowers can also be used for an even milder onion flavor - they look gorgeous in salads, and have that irresistible peppery onion aroma!
Chives are pretty enough to be used ornamentally as well as in cuisine. They make fine companions to roses, keeping away many destructive pests with their strong scent while beautifying the garden with their large ball of lavender-pink blooms. They are a good "guard" for any plant that needs a little muscle to keep out nibbling visitors!
And chives are perennial from one end of the country to the other. Direct-sow the seeds anytime from spring through summer, placing several seeds together in the planting hole. The slender green shoots will appear within a few weeks, and be ready for harvest in about 3 months.
Chives rewards you with long-lived plants that set lovely blooms, offer good garden protection, and can be snipped as needed for cuisine. We are confident that it will become one of your favorites for herb, vegetable, and flower garden! Zones 3-9. Pkt is 100 seeds.
Stevia Seeds
Makes a great houseplant! Perfect for Living Walls!
20 to 30 times sweeter than sugar cane, yet non-caloric!
A wholesome alternative to processed sugar and chemically-derived artificial sweeteners, Stevia ("sugarleaf") is becoming more and more popular among health-conscious individuals. It's 20 to 30 times sweeter than sugar cane, yet is non-caloric and doesn't promote tooth decay!
Stevia is easy to use, too. Just drop a leaf into hot or cold drinks, or use it like a bay leaf to sweeten meat and vegetables dishes while they cook -- it's heat-stable! Grind the dried leaves and sprinkle them into cereals and other cold dishes as you would sugar. You can even extract the oil!
The plant is a tender perennial for sowing indoors in a brightly-lit spot. It needs well-drained soil and very little else to grow vigorously, sporting small white flowers in summer. Plant reaches 1 foot tall and about 1 1/2 feet wide. Enjoy! Pkt is 50 seeds.
Cilantro - Coriander Seeds
Big yields of fragrant, tasty leaves.
Very slow to bolt, it's the best we've ever seen for hot climates!
50 days for leaves. Calypso is destined to become the new workhorse of your herb garden. Stocky, very well-branched plants deliver almost unbelievable yields of fragrant, delectable leaves, simply packed with authentic Cilantro flavor. Let them set seed and you have Coriander too!
Just 12 to 18 inches high and wide, this powerhouse concentrates all its energy on producing masses of flavorful leaves. The more you cut, the quicker new ones arise, for a longer-than-ever season of delicious eating!
Cilantro is used in Mexican, Thai, Chinese, and Indian cooking. It is a staple of great Salsa, with a very spicy bite that complements the acidity of Tomatoes and limes nicely. Pick fresh leaves all summer long! And Coriander is a fragrant spice widely used in Middle Eastern and Indian cuisine. Fresh Cilantro and Coriander from your garden are infinitely more aromatic and flavorful than most store-bought versions, so consider adding it to your vegetable garden this season!
Mother of Thyme Seeds
A perennial Thyme that is perfect for Living Walls and hanging baskets!
Mother of Thyme is dense with a spreading habit that makes it the ideal groundcover, trailer in containers, or addition to any Living Wall. It has a rich fragrance and bright blooms which add immeasurably to the appeal of this plant.
This perennial thyme is very adaptable and tough, though to look at its lush display, you would never guess at its resilience! The blooms attract butterflies and bees, while the intense fragrance seems to deter nibbling rabbits and deer. The perfect combination!
Evergreen in most areas and quite drought-resistant once it has become established, Mother of Thyme is a good choice for just about any bare, sunny, well-drained patch of soil. This prostrate, mat-forming perennial with slim stems is lined with tiny, oval, hairy leaves. Clusters of pink-purple flowers appear in summer on plants that reach ½ to 3 inches tall and up to 3 feet wide.
Bush Pickle Cucumbers
Space Saving Cucumber Plant - Perfect for Living Walls, Apartment & Container Gardening!
4-inch fruit is wonderful for pickling!
45 days. No more fooling with trellises and stakes! This Park Space-saver saves garden space by growing its abundant crop on a compact, bushy plant just 3 to 4 feet wide! The fruit is just right for pickling -- 4 inches long, light to mid-green, with a crisp, tender flavor. Bush Pickle has been an outstanding performer in our trial gardens, and we think you'll find it not only compact but very prolific!
Direct-sow seeds in a sunny spot after all danger of frost is past, or start indoors and transplant when the first true leaf appears. Cucumbers can be allowed to grow on the ground, but for longer, straighter fruit and to save garden space, grow them in a cage or on a trellis, allowing 1 foot between plants. Keep them well-watered, and keep the fruits picked promptly. Pkt is 25 seeds.
Cajun Bell Pepper
Great for Living Walls & Container Gardening
Disease-resistant and very heavy-bearing, Cajun Belle's got it all!
This 2010 AAS winner routinely wins taste tests, so prepare for sweet, mildly hot flavor that everyone in the family will find irresistible!
60 days from transplanting.
Talk about an ornamental edible! This pepper is grown for flavor, flavor, and still more flavor -- yet take one look at it and you might think of designing your entire patio garden around its bright good looks! (Go right ahead!) Boasting a combination of sweet and mildly spicy flavor packed with vitamin C, these mini bells ripen from green to scarlet to deep red on vigorous, disease-resistant plants just 2 feet high and wide. What's not to love?
The fruit is about 3 inches long and 2 inches in diameter, with 3 or 4 plump lobes and plenty of delectable eating. It arises in huge numbers, and the longer you let it mature on the plant, the more nutritious it becomes. A fully-fruiting plant at the height of the season is a summer Christmas tree of green, scarlet, and red!
But Cajun Belle is really renowned for its flavor. Stuff the peppers, slice them raw into salads and snack plates, or mince them for sauteing -- that rich burst of sweet-and-hot taste remains! This variety has never known a taste test it didn't ace. No wonder it won a 2010 All-America Selection!
Boasting good disease resistance, Cajun Belle needs no staking, and performs as well on the patio as it does in the garden. You will love its ease of growth, space-saving size, and delicious peppers!
Fairy Tale Eggplant
Compact, Perfect for Living Walls & Container Gardening!
Pick this merrily striped fruit young (4 inches) for best flavor!
50 days from setting out transplants. An Eggplant as beautiful as it is delicious! Fairy Tale Hybrid really is all about happiily-ever-afters -- now you can grow the loveliest, most tender-sweet fruits of your gardening career right on the patio in containers! Handsome enough for the annual flower bed but ready to produce enough yummy fruits to keep everyone coming back for seconds, Fairy Tale Hybrid is the Eggplant you MUST try this season. No wonder it won a 2005 All-America Selection!
This dwarf reaches just 18 to 24 inches high and wide, setting masses of showy purple-lavender blooms all over its well-branched form. These are followed by eggplants in clusters of 2 to 4. Very slender and long, they are neon-lavender with bold streaks of white -- absolutely showstopping!
And the flavor is the best part of all. Pick Fairy Tales young -- about 4 inches -- and sink your teeth into the most tender, sweet, succulent Eggplant you've ever tasted. No bitterness here!
Fairy Tale Hybrid has been awarded a 2005 All-America Selection for its revolutionary habit and look, but I think its best merit is flavor! Plan to design your garden around this splendid edible ornamental!
Begin seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before planning to set out. Eggplant is a warm-weather crop, so wait until after danger of frost before transplanting seedlings into the sunny garden. Set 18 inches apart. Pkt is 12 seeds.
Tomato Cherry Fountains
Great for large pots and containers!
Cherry Fountain produces succulent, full flavor, bright red fruit in abundant yields throughout the summer. The little cherry sized tomatoes form in bunches all over the plant. Cherry Fountain is a very attractive trailing variety suited for large hanging baskets, pots and containers. Because of the habit of the plants they require very little maintenance apart from regular watering, feeding and full sun exposure.
Palco Spinach
Perfect for Living Walls!
Great for Any Climate!
Resistant to downy mildew.
Here's the spinach you want for any climate, any season, and just about any use! Adaptable, quick, and very disease-resistant, Palco Hybrid is out to become your spinach of choice, season after season!
Ready in a flash (38 days), it can be picked early for baby greens or allowed to grow out. If you go out of town or become overwhelmed with fresh veggies, leave it be -- it's quite bolt-resistant. And if you live in a warm climate, it's a great choice to overwinter!
Palco sets smooth mid-green leaves with the traditional rounded, spoon-like shape. The yields are good, probably because this spinach demonstrates excellent resistance to 8 races of downy mildew: 1-5, 8, 9, and 11. No need to worry about rain, humidity, or crowding with Palco!
We highly recommend this spinach for spring or fall crops. It's a good container choice, and fares especially well in the crowded vegetable garden. You're going to love the fresh flavor!
Pkt is 100 seeds.
Tumbling Tom Tomatoes - Red
Perfect Plant for Living Walls and Container Gardening!
Loads of juicy, delicious Tomatoes on every stem!
Weeping habit trails 2 feet from baskets and containers!
70 days to maturity from setting out transplants. Determinate; weeping habit. No more staking, stooping, and searching for Tomatoes in the garden -- Tumbling Tom puts big handfuls of luscious Cherries right at eye level! This lovely "edible ornamental" is just perfect for hanging baskets, windowboxes, and tall containers where you want to show off the color and vigor of your favorite Tomato!
This plant has a weeping habit, so it dangles about 2 feet over the sides of containers, for all the world as pretty as any spreading Petunia! First it sets attractive white blooms, then masses of small, bright red 1- to 2-inch round fruits. Grow it just as you would any other Tomato, but don't worry about stakes, cages, root nematode, and other pests of the soil! Tumbling Tom is above it all!
A great choice for small space gardens (where it can hang above the "ground" Tomatoes!), urban balconies, and any other bright sunny setting, Tumbling Tom is well-branched, about 6 to 8 inches wide, and vigorously productive. Plant 2 or 3 in a 10- or 12-inch basket and you'll be rolling in Tomatoes before you know it!
Start seeds indoors 5 to 6 weeks before the last frost date. Plant outdoors when danger of frost is past and night temperatures consistently remain above 55 degrees F. If an unexpected late frost is forecasted, protect young plants with plastic sheeting or other cover. Set plants 6 inches apart. Pkt is 25 seeds.
Redskin Peppers
Great Choice For Living Walls & Apartment Gardening
Harvest them green or let them ripen to a vitamin-packed brilliant red!
Compact enough for containers, but with giant 4- to 5-inch fruit!
80 days. These giant bells look even larger than ever on plants so compact they grow comfortably in flowerpots and windowboxes! Redskin and its orange cousin Mohawk are the best bells for container growth, with large healthy fruit all over well-branched, super-petite plants!
Expect these bells to reach 4 to 5 inches long, crowding one another on plants just 8 to 10 inches high. Pick them green or let them mature to rich red, when their vitamin content (and eye-popping good looks!) is at its peak. They are symmetrical, with three to four lobes and excellent color.
Pkt is 15 seeds.
Summer Lettuce
Great Choice for Living Walls & Apartment Gardeners!
Contains butterhead, crisphead, loose-leaf, and Romaine for a GREAT VALUE!
A custom blend of 7 exceptionally heat-tolerant, slow-bolting varieties you will love!
45 days (on average) to maturity.
Even if your summer weather sometimes begins in March, you can enjoy a long, delicious season of fresh lettuce with our custom-blended mixture of 7 heat-tolerant varieties. Specially selected to resist bolting and keep their flavorful crunch right into summer, the outstanding lettuces in this mixture will keep you in fresh leaves three seasons out of the year!
We have chosen 7 varieties for this blend, including butterheads (Boston lettuce), crispheads (iceberg), Romaine, and loose-leaves. Several have stunning red highlights on their foliage; all are guaranteed tasty and crisp even into the dog days of summer! These are all premium named varieties, available as a mixture only here at Park Seed, where we know about long, hot summers!
The average days to maturity is 45, with most varieties harvesting at about the same time -- a delicious mix of flavors and textures that looks as good as it tastes in the garden or salad bowl! Sow successively 2 or 3 weeks apart for an entire season of "late" lettuce!
Lettuce thrives in cold weather and can be sown directly into the garden, starting in early spring. For an even earlier harvest, sow indoors; the seedlings don't mind transplanting. If a fall crop is desired, begin in late summer. Grow in single rows, plants spaced 18 inches apart, or in containers.
Pkt is 150 seeds.
Tumbling Tom Tomatoes - Yellow
Perfect for Living Walls & Container Gardening!
Loads of juicy, delicious Tomatoes on every stem!
Weeping habit trails 2 feet from baskets and containers!

Patio Baby Eggplant
Compact, Perfect for Living Walls & Container Gardening!
This natural dwarf plant sets fruit all summer long -- an astonishing 25 to 50 eggplants per plant!
Arugula
Perfect Plant for Living Walls & Container/Apartment Gardening!
Sow this seed every two weeks in spring for a long, delicious harvest.
Peppery-Mustardy Flavor Wakes Up the Palate!
Once a rare delicacy, Arugula is now part of the American dinner table. But for what it costs at the fresh market, growing your own is the only sane option! And it's a good thing it's so easy to grow -- you can sow the seeds successively every 2 weeks all spring to guarantee yourself a big harvest over many months to come!
This plant reaches about 2 1/2 feet tall and 1 foot wide, with leaves best cut at 2 to 3 inches long. Cut just what you need for the next meal; each leaf that is severed stimulates production of more foliage, so a single plant can keep producing over a long season. And the flavor is so delectable when the leaves are young and tender -- peppery and mustardy, with a palate-cleansing zing! Great in pesto, too -- just don't let the leaves get too big, because they will lose their tender texture with maturity.
Start seeds indoors 3 to 4 weeks before last frost. They should germinate in 3 to 4 days at 40 to 55 degrees F. When the seedlings are 4 weeks old, transplant them into rows about 18 inches apart, in full sun to dappled shade and loose, rich soil. Pkt is 100 seeds.

Strawberries are extremely adaptable and are grown in every state in the U.S. Plants generally grow 6”–8” tall and 12” across, are shallow–rooted, and benefit from mulch such as straw, pine needles, or plastic. Prefer a soil rich in all the basic nutrients with a pH of 6–6.5. Susceptible to root rot and must be planted in well-drained soil, with crown set at soil level. Yield under the best of conditions is about one basket per plant per season. June bearers generally produce a single large crop in spring to early summer (as early as March in warmer regions) and are prolific producers for 3 to 4 weeks. Pick the blossoms off June Bearers the first year to boost production the second year. Ever bearers are not as prolific as June bearers but are especially suitable for growers who wish to harvest a constant supply of berries throughout the summer.
